Our village of Barna is the first village from Galway City located in the Gaeltacht,
(the Irish speaking area of County Galway). As you travel west from the cottages
along the Barna (Coast) Road you will see on the south side of the bay the Burren
Hills of County Clare where ancient caves and pre-historic artifacts have been
found; and the Aran Islands at the mouth of Galway Bay where the famous fort
Dun Aengus built over 2000 years ago is located, and the islanders who originated
the popular Irish knit sweaters. As well as golf, both lake and ocean fishing are in the
Barna area, and the rugged hills of Connemara where the sun and clouds create
constantly changing shades of green.
